Introduction

Everything heals. Your body heals. Your heart heals. The mind heals. Wounds heal. Your soul repairs itself. Your happiness is always going to come back. Bad times don’t last.”

Christiana Rutkowski

Let me start by saying… EVERYTHING HEALS. Thank God for small favors. Life, the Earth & her inhabitants & we the people here, are all self-cleaning mechanisms, wherefore we can drain the living shit out of all our resources & fashion a fateful folly land of flawed humanhood… for decades upon centuries… & with enough of the right kind of TLC, anything will eventually bounce back. Miracles are not as uncommon as one might think. Yes, everything heals, mends, regenerates, realigns, rebalances, recovers & restores, despite odds. That said, knowing all is not lost… I give you my razor-sharp analysis of the current state of affairs, with no holds barred, through an unrefined lens. Enjoy!

No doubt, our species has indeed gone rogue. The Earth is riddled with bizarre behavior, criminal conduct, & unruly, unkempt, uncouth, unraveling citizens. It’s no secret. It’s evident everywhere you turn. I’d like to believe in the inherent goodness inside of people, but the harsh truth of widespread subpar mediocrity remains. Our innate goodness is like a ball of rising sun… it is at first dim & as it rises to its greatness, it will either shine brightly, high in the sky, for all to see, bestowing light & nourishment or get clouded by fog behind a curtain of clouds & darken the whole damn party with a dull damp haze.

We may all have inherent goodness, but not all people let it shine. At our human core, we are a species of predators & prey & no sugar-coated theory about how we are saints & saviors will convince me otherwise. Sorry, but I’m not sorry. Folks everywhere have this lackluster laissez-faire attitude where they just roll with the punches until they get knocked out for the count, & just give up getting up. We are born creators… not pawns along for some ride on some gameboard of a dictator God monster with a pointy staff & a naughty & nice list. A rather large portion of the population does not seem to get that, though. Our species is suffering here. The universal omnipotent force of eternal Divine energy (God) is neutral & unbiased. It co-creates with us according to our freedom of will via our choices. If we do not exercise our free will, someone else, government, religion or some man-made machine will exercise it for you. And at that point, there are no guarantees it will be the best choice for all involved.

God damn it, we are in control of what we choose to think, feel, perceive, believe & focus on. This is the seat of the “freedom of will.” Remember people: what we focus on, we expand, & then thus experience. What we resist, persists, because we are thus focusing on it via disdain. It’s not rocket science. If a person wants to keep harping on the same thing over & over & over & over & over, they will continuously get the same results… disdain, disappointment, dysfunction, dis-ease. This disdain is essentially proving over & over & over again, their focused crappy theory, & thus the belief, being insidiously endorsed. Stop that! It’s YOUR brain… no one else’s. CHOOSE to see things another more improved way! Things will then thus change. It’s law. How we perceive things, people & circumstances is ALWAYS our choice. It’s not what happens to you, it’s how you handle it, perceive it, respond to it, comply with it. Here’s a bright idea>>> sway it all in your favor! Imagine>> (think, feel, visualize) the best outcome, the most beneficial dynamic, harmony, synergy, advantageous coincidence! Why? BECAUSE YOU CAN! #Boss

Last weekend a young man asked me how I remain so positive. “It seems all the negativity in the world doesn’t affect you,” he said. I had no more than a minute with the young man so I offered this: It’s all about where you choose to put your attention, and I choose to be happy.”

OWN YOUR POWER Card

by: Indie Goes Software App via Self Love Oracle Cards

{Changing the world is easier after one has learned to change oneself. Be the change you wish to see, & your world will shift.

We play victim whenever we want to deny the steps we can take to change the situations around us. This is not to say that we are never at the mercy of circumstances outside of ourselves. But this card reminds you that there is always something you can do, even if it’s to change your attitude and responses, and to start making different choices.

Everything we face in our lives is a consequence of past personal and collective choices that we’ve made. It is sometimes too easy to throw up our hands and claim that there’s nothing else that we can do. Well, whatever we say is so, becomes so.

We need to become aware that we always have power over our choices. If we feel that we are forced into certain decisions because of circumstances, we may actually be shutting our doors and denying our responsibility of searching for alternate solutions or making a stand against coercion.

This card is a strong invitation to start looking at what you can do, not what you cannot. Take responsibility for where you are and look at all of your options, including those that you may not have considered before. You can then reclaim your power to determine where you’re going.}

That said, I know there are those of us who have harnessed & are working towards or have already thus mastered the Law of Attraction, the power of positivity, of laughter, of snapping back quickly. Kudos to those of us who keep our eyes on the prize & behave accordingly, seeking mindful living, health & wellness, gratitude, & a depth of greater understanding. Furthermore, I believe very strongly that men & women can behave graciously toward each other when prompted. There are most definitely good people in the world. We can be courageous instruments of peace when called. When the situation heralds a heroic deed, hero or heroes incarnate, humans will drum up & gather in the name of justice & salvation.

We will rescue & restore our fellow man to safety & security til the cows come home & then some. But that is instinct. Our powerful capabilities lie deep within us to save each other, gain triumph & victory over apparent “evil forces” outside ourselves.  But what about the inherent evil that has been cultivated, bred & spread within our hearts, minds & bodies for centuries on end? We are enemies of ourselves most of all, victimizers & victims to the max. And THIS, my friends… is what this book is about.

At worst, humanoids are creatures of lust & hate, dreamers with dark hearts that have secret penchants for a spectrum of poisonous indulgences. A fast food drive thru can be found almost around every single corner in most towns & cities worldwide. I heard a guy say once, that in certain parts of Florida, there are more “Pain Clinics” than McDonalds’. America has multiple chains of smoke shops & vape stores. {More than 3.6 million CHILDREN used E-Cigs in 2018. 1 in 5 high school students use E-Cigs}

TODAY, as I write these words, the Surgeon General sounded an ALARM on Vaping. The U.S. Surgeon General, Dr. Jerome Adams, issued a WARNING, calling it an “epidemic” & a massive threat to public health. “Our youth & teens are in serious jeopardy,” he stated. The carcinogens & mind-altering nicotine in these pens & pipes are harmful to the developing brain, lungs, throat & overall health. It might not be LSD, bong hits, E pills, or kegger parties these days, but kids today sure do know how to inhale that almighty nic fit saturated vaper cloud. (guilty!)

We have multiple chains of liquor stores, hookah lounges, kava & kratom bars, weed bars, wine bars, breweries, vineyards, sex shops, strip clubs, brothels, casinos, addictive gaming & gambling outlets, pharmacy after pharmacy, kill stations we call farms that mass produce animals for all the products we lavishly require daily.

We consume sugar, soda, meat, dairy & high fructose corn syrup way past any reasonable limit. Our bodies fight & kick & scream daily. Our bodies work so hard to keep us healthy, toxin free, energetic, disease free, limber, flexible, strong & restorative. But we challenge it constantly. We abuse our bodies, poison our minds, sting our hearts with anger, fear, frustration, stress, resentment, jealousy & self-loathing. The human being is a bittersweet specimen. While compassionate & kind, we are reckless & irrational. While grateful & generous we are blamers & thieves. We all live on the same block.

Not to mention, regarding the “hate” part, our jails, prisons, penitentiaries, work release programs & juvenile detention centers are all overflowing, over crowded, backed up & more populated with inmates than ever before in human history.

Did someone say: “Prison Industrial Complex?”

That said, adding to the greed machine we call government, there is basically a bounty on each & every one of those heads, to keep them locked up, or caught in the system. Our so called “fair” judicial system conveniently referred to as the “Dept of Justice,” was designed with all kinds of deliberate pitfalls so to be a revolving door for the sake of business.

To validate this even further, Prisons have now become privatized. Prisons have owners, investors & people that buy stock in them. When they are built or expanded, it is a new space that needs inventory. So, from a business standpoint, these jail houses must then secure & proliferate product which will generate profit. Bodies are their most valuable product, convicted criminals their pay dirt, recidivism their Ace in the hole. The Court system, the prisons & local politicians are all in bed with each other, for a buck. Keeping the supply high, with arrests & convictions that never end. Keeping everybody’s belly full & pockets fat. It’s the name of the game.

{According to the Vera Institute of Justice, incarceration costs an average of more than $31,000 per inmate, per year, nationwide. In some states, it’s as much as $60,000. Taxpayers foot the bill for feeding, housing and securing people in state and federal penitentiaries. May 19, 2017}

Our prisons are chock full of men & women alike who repeatedly commit crimes against their neighbor as a lifestyle. Whether it is due to low income, poor education, ghetto demographics, OR NOT, there is a metropolis of all types of people turned criminals who are hemmed up in the system for all types of reasons. Crime doesn’t discriminate. Humans are prone. Black, white, blue, red, rich or poor. From dirty cops, to the “shooter,” to the Ponzi scheme frauds, the backyard gun slingers, dope smugglers, petty thieves, aggravated assaulters, prostitutes, johns, drunks, rapists, molesters, killers, drug addicts, sex traders, terrorists, bullies, bank robbers. And what’s worse? Rehabilitation for these folks is scant. Prisons more likely produce droves of people in & out of that revolving door that are better criminals than when they got there.

When they are released, most of these people barely have “reintegration” programs, “anger management” classes, therapy, counselling, job placement assistance, support groups… especially for men. Rather, they have Parole Officers who are waiting to violate them. These guys have children & families they must learn how to reengage with. Most convicts have poor coping skills for real world living. Everything is provided for them in the “three hots & a cot” realm of robot lock up. Not to mention, they have built walls behind those walls, to likely protect themselves. Hearts have been hardened. Nothing good ever came from a cold, or closed, broken, barrier laden, armored heart.

Incarceration in the United States is one of the main forms of punishment and rehabilitation for committing felony and other offenses. We have the largest prison population in the world, and the highest per-capita incarceration rate. In 2016 in the US, according to stats floating around online, there were 655 people incarcerated per 100,000 population. This is the US incarceration rate for adults or people tried as adults.

Do you really know who your neighbors are? Many people just pass time. They just sit around & wonder why they are nowhere with nothing, while they binge watch another endless paradoxical drama likely saturated with distorted realities. Instead of striving to be better, more enhanced versions of themselves, they breed mixed feelings, laziness, lack, limitation, loss, worry, fear, & bad genes of dysfunctional stories, bad habits & conflicted programs. They continue the unsavory trends of delusion.

People seem to have this diluted sense of self. They grovel at the foot of a dictator God called “He” & then run around town with a false sense of sovereignty. This counterfeit sovereignty eventually fails them because they have forfeited personal responsibility, as if some great deity in the sky is in autonomous control. Then they blame God when something bad happens. Religion is a big toilet that needs to be flushed. Spirituality is what’s real. Spirituality is being true to the Divinity in oneself. Religion is a business. Religion is a busted bicycle that has a wobbly tire & only one set of brakes that half ass work. Spirituality is an internal quiet commitment to honor the God in yourself & everyone else equally. Hence the meaning of the word: Namaste.

Amen, means: Yes! In this case, Yes! to the lies. Yes! to a corpse hanging from a tree that came to save us all from our sinner selves. Jesus Christ is a historic figurehead whom with which likely lived on this Earth with a sincere sacred mission to make an instrumental mark on humanity. And YES! He did learn & develop via the Eastern teachings of Eastern religion, the Kabbalah & the Great Ancient & wise nomads that fasted & meditated, practiced Yoga & Tantra & Zen life & essentially are responsible for the Zen culture trends that we have today. Unlike what the Bible reveals, this Jesus savior dude studied at the University of Buddha.

WWJD? This slogan is viral because Jesus was a perfect example of what a person should look like, when living out a righteous life path here, in this earthly 3-dimensional reality. Why does religion feel this compelling need to keep spinning this died, buried & rose from the dead tale? Why is this crucifixion story at the center of every single service & sermon? Christian radio stations beat a dead horse over & over & over with this hanging on a cross story. It’s nauseating & exhausting. He died for your sins? Took away the sin of the world? God gave his only son… to save us from ourselves? Great… let’s be done with it then. Give it a rest. Let’s move on.

This is my daily affirmation: (Say it along with me!)

“The Sovereign sword of my conscious awareness cuts through the mire of disdain and disorder and dysfunction and disconnection and disillusion and disaster, disappointment, & discontent. I free unhealthy attachments, obsessions & what no longer serves me here. I release all expectations & live in the now fully. I am seated within perfect love & illumined by the God Force, empowered by peace. Wellness is my eternal state. Warm vibrations clothe me. I trust the processes of life. I know the blessed Universe is my sole provider. The Universe is my unlimited source. Abundant prosperity is a constant flow even within the ides of polarity. My soul is bright, glowing & on fire with a passion for expanding love, light & prosperous gain. I am rich, rewarded & worthy of recognition. I am a channel for ascension on Gaia & an intermediary transmitting the promise of peace to all warrior souls. I am cleansed, purified & sanctified within the moment of now. All is forgiven. All is Grace. Resentments fade. I am free!”

Life is all about belief. It’s all that matters. It’s from where all else stems. It is packed with all the nooks and crannies that compose & comprise a life of experiences. The region of us where thoughts roam & frolic is the brain. Picture a big giant grassy backyard where a bunch of different kinds of kids & dogs are at play just jumping & frolicking about, splishy splashy through the sprinkler or tossing a ball. These thoughts that roam & frolic are the individual threads that weave the fabric of our beliefs. What we then thus believe, we live out & experience thereof.

Some of these beliefs are buried. Ingrained so deep into the depths of our subconsciousness that we are totally unaware that they are undermining our good or sabotaging our greatness in the present. Consequently, we are baffled. We may blame others or circumstances for our undesirable experiences, totally disregarding that whatever occurs in our personal landscape is due solely to our beliefs, whether visible to the rational mind or not.

The consciousness of our minds is a tricky animal. It is invisible & intangible & so many times a challenge to see, grasp or hold into place. It could thereof be rather easy to dismiss or not take responsibility for. But be advised… the multifaceted & layered dimensions of our consciousness are very important for us to unveil, garden, tidy up, spring clean, weed, prune, groom, thus maintain, preserve, protect & praise. Our beliefs are seated in that backyard. Those beliefs are the culprits to all that we experience & express, create & manifest. It’s very crucial to know what kinds of beliefs they are. So rationally, we may rewire as needed. Realigning ourselves to what is true, right, useful & practical & positively progressive from all the wrong concepts we may have been taught, trained or brainwashed to believe from past programs & patterns & people’s flawed projections & shoddy or shady influences.

I really do believe that I have more goodness in my pinky finger than many choice folks have in their whole body. By no means, does this imply I’m a flawless little Angel. It just means this: murderers & rapists may love their mothers & pets, have gardens & know how to whip up a good bowl of pasta but, that doesn’t mean they are good people. Redeeming qualities in a psychopath don’t make him any less of a savage force of reckless behavior. I am a firm believer in the inherent goodness in people, but not all people tap into it. They basically run around their whole lives with screaming potentials (literally) dying to be fulfilled. Dr. Wayne Dyer talks about having music left in you, never getting your song out. Droves of folks live & die without ever tuning in.

Or, people run around, rather, nourishing the darkness within them instead of the light & their inherent goodness lies dormant until their soul is set free at physical death. Then, they get yet another go of it via reincarnation, or they meld into some ethereal energy abyss where they can just be miserable the whole live long day in some false ether world miscreated on the astral plane somewhere. Don’t quote me on that, but you know what I mean.

I am not in the business of hurting people, shaming people, condemning or criticizing, I am in the business rather, of justice & truth, plain & simple. That said, multiple individuals in the natural proprietary blend of the world population are oppressive, unloving, cruel, misguided, greedy, self-absorbed, self-centered, & self-serving. Like an antiquated black & white horror movie eerily flickering in the corner of a creepy dark room, the people of the world have been hypnotized like zombies, strung up like slaves, & utterly brainwashed, in a most ghastly tormented way. We have built & bred a culture & civilization of suffering, sickness, disease, pain, fear, heartache, anger, violence, injustice, backwards beliefs, unnecessary sacrifice, blindness, numbness, limit, lack, self-loathing & self-pity that weakens our spirit, drains our bodies, corrupts the files of our minds & sucks our souls right out like a villainous vacuum cleaner.

Who are the ringleaders? Who is the captain? Who is the sheriff of Shitshowtown? Well, anyone who exercises, & enforces leadership & authority with fear & control, deprivation, intimidation, manipulation, tyranny, dichotomy, bureaucracy, fascism, racism, sexism, terrorism, war, destructive division, & harmful competition. The insidious implementation of these morally bankrupt things/thugs has turned our world into a breeding ground of humans that are significantly subpar & devoid of honest principles & authentic intentions.

The planet has now been decorated with a bunch of misunderstood mutants holding on to each other for dear life. We live in a land of crawlers instead of walkers. The planet is strewn with people who believe their own lies & concede to produce & perpetuate whole generations of pissants & Pinocchios. The sludge is beginning to float to the top. It is time to call it like it is. Don’t mind if I do.

Some might say I need sensitivity training, but I say:

We come through our parents. We are not them. They are the channel through which we travel here to coexist & co-create with others upon this planet earth in a 3 dimensional reality that has been set forth for us to grace. That said, let’s acknowledge also that we are free then, to be ourselves, to behave as we see fit, & honor the integrity of our individuality &/or soul calling despite “where we came from,” despite our genes, despite our family customs & traditions, & most of all… despite what false programs, sinister dramas, toxic thought patterns or flawed belief systems have been super imposed on us most times without our permission. Subliminally, subconsciously, or blatantly ingrained by parents, guardians, family, friends, teachers, media, government, religion, & advertisement, each & every one of us have been influenced in our youth. By the time we all reach a certain human age, we become aware of the power of personal choice. We each have a turning point from child to adult where we each learn that we are solely responsible for what we create for our selves & lives. At which time, we can either reject that or accept that, & develop & move forward accordingly. Blame game, or proactive co-creator? Your choice, friends.

The Twelve Step Program is outdated.

Click below to LISTEN to this blog post! Then… share this! #SpreadAwareness

Attention: all those who wish to be liberated from the limiting beliefs & restrictions of backwards doctrines. Whether it’s religion, or Narcotics Anonymous or a program being imposed (inflicted) upon our children via secular school curriculum. Today, I will talk NA, for the sake of the countrywide “crisis” we now face as a Nation, & quite frankly, also as a worldwide race, sinking deeper. Pull up a chair. Check your ego at the door. Hear me out.

Since this is the day & age where Opioid addiction has become so prevalent & destructive that it has been declared a National Health Emergency by our current President, I believe that this conversation is very necessary. The Opioid crisis spans waaaaay back in time. I guess people are just noticing, all of a sudden? I guess it’s time for the government to capitalize on it, jump in on the greed game, with Big Pharma, rehabs, doctors, & detox facilities. They must have felt left out. (mmm-hmmm)  Regardless of the reason or timing or motive, this article is about a much more important topic. It’s about how Twelve-Step Programs are outdated, & quite frankly, in my seasoned opinion… sabotaging people to stay stuck on a merry-go-round for the remainder of their “clean & sober” lives as a “Recovering Addict.”

Even though Twelve-Step programs are the most accessible formats offered in our society, to assist those attempting to get & stay clean, they are not the most effective. Would you like me to repeat that? Twelve-Step programs seem to be in place everywhere. More or less, they are the leading protocol for all recovery seekers, however, just like old outdated programs in the mind that need adjustment, so does this program of protocol in our society that says: Twelve-Step programs are the be all end all best solution to maintaining a clean life. That is a misconception that has been ingrained into our society.

Even though the Twelve-Steps can be very effective for many people in need of guidance, redirection, or respite, as they contain a workable formatted guideline to redefine your journey… they are written with an outdated perspective. Comparable to the many wild mythologies & parables of the Bible that are racist, sexist & outdated & certainly would be much more understood & relevant if revised to meet a modern morale & standard.

The Big Blue Book has the right ideas, & contains plenty of nutrient rich intel, don’t get me wrong, but still… if we look at the big picture, certain outmoded content needs to be significantly altered in order to avoid the pitfalls of the past (the revolving door) & ultimately attain better results, going forward. “If we do what we’ve always done, we will get what we’ve always gotten.” Hmmmmm… don’t I recall that poster hanging on the wall of every rehab, detox & meeting? NA, needs to follow it’s own advice.

The Twelve Steps need to be adjusted & rewritten to meet a new improved standard of accountability that speaks more to our empowerment than to our powerlessness… at the very least. It’s 2017-18… I’m surprised no one has done that yet, frankly. Aren’t you? Well, after some Google research, it seems there are a few revisions here & there, but unfortunately, nothing was ever universally implemented.

Meetings are everywhere, especially for the weary. In any city, state, & country one finds themselves… no doubt, there’s a meeting down the street there. NA & AA is a HUGE organization with a cult-like following. I get it. But, true recovery is an inner journey. If people are not redirected properly, they will end up latching on to anything they can get their hands on, including meetings & other people going through the same thing. This usually poses a threat to our sobriety, because people are essentially not outgrowing dependence at all, but reinforcing it instead. No longer reliant on drugs or alcohol to get by, now they are reliant on people & a flawed culture of people that keep announcing aloud: they are addicts. On top of the fact that these groups are likely filled with a shit-ton of ex-cons, thieves, liars, & manipulators with criminal behavior & addictive personalities who very well likely relapse frequently. Who very well likely seek comfort through sex, or ban together to do more dirt than what got them there in the first place. Which at the very least, is counterproductive. I’ve witnessed & experienced this first hand, over & over.

Yes, Twelve-Step programs are free. meetings are free. It’s the most accessible means in any community, to connect people to recovery resources, aide, or help for sobriety. It’s like a big church of sorts, for any kind of addict to attend. They welcome everyone without judgement or discretion. Remarkable indeed, but it still doesn’t change the fact that once a person walks through that door, they are expected to do two things to remain there. One: admit they are an addict over & over again by stating aloud “I am an addict” every time they announce themselves to talk… and two: buy into the belief that addiction is a disease. Both of these concepts are counterproductive & are not accurate within the context of Universal Law.

Universal Law states that the I Am principle of deliberate creation is how we harness & own our divinity/personal power. Stating: I am an addict, over & over, each time you verbally represent yourself to others…. is sabotaging the mind to believe you are still an addict. Would you like me to repeat that?  It’s complete opposite of what living a clean life aims for. “I am a recovering or recovered addict,” would be more suitable. But, even then, the I am statement is still making a declaration that is essentially keeping that person trapped in some kind of stereotype of recovering addict persona. The goal is: to change how we identify ourselves. If twelve step people are constantly identifying themselves & others as addicts in or out of recovery, then they will just be stuck within an identity that is limiting. We are in the business of redefining who we are, so that we do not see ourselves as that addict or that struggling person in recovery. We must change the way we view ourselves & our lives & paths, with our imagination & creative visualizing faculties. We will see results faster & easier & we will make significant lasting progress rather than temporary baby steps that likely get lost & buried within the next relapse. And oh, I can almost assure you… there will be a next relapse.

From a self-proclaimed non-Twelve-Step successfully recovered person’s point of view (mine)>>>>> I sincerely believe, going forward, that non-Twelve-Step programs are so instrumental to effective change in the recovery community. For anyone that wishes to stop being a serial repeater of the same patterns & then relapsing incessantly… there’s only one choice: seek your local non-Twelve-Step program. Make sure it’s legit. There’s financial assistance out there, don’t believe the hype that says there’s not. It’s accessible to you, no matter what class or race or ethnicity you are. Make it happen. No excuses.

Regarding that “disease” notion…. I strongly disagree. A disease is typically described as something either terminal or acquired unexpectedly without our consent, not chosen. Addiction, though predisposed to some extent due to genetics… it is still not a disease. Calling it a disease is putting a label on it that makes it sound inescapable, terminal or something out of our control. Addiction is none of those things. The Twelve Steps teach that we are powerless over our addiction. But, this is a false statement. Once in the throes of the active compulsion of addiction itself, we are powerless in a sense, for we are being possessed by our insatiable desires. But, once we detox from whatever the obsession is… then we gain back our power & can thus exercise our own authority then to rise above the compulsion that once controlled us. We can consciously choose to reverse the damage by changing how we view ourselves, life & the word addiction.

Addiction is not a disease, it’s a temporary compulsion that can be transformed & channeled into a more balanced personal stability via self-love, physical activity, meditation, creative visualization, lots of emotional purging & cleansing & ultimately the rewiring of the mind. No one said it was a quick fix. But, it doesn’t have to take forever either. And the Twelve-Step program is not the most efficient road to recovery. It’s definitely flawed, on many levels. Calling addiction a disease, is keeping people stuck. Point blank.

Choose life. Choose freedom. Choose to name yourself not “addict” but, person with a message on a mission with a plan & a purpose. A person who graduated from the sting of addictive behaviors & moved to the next level because they wanted to, chose to, consciously, deliberately chose to, because they were sick of being sick & tired. If u want to be rich, hang out with rich people. If u want to be a successful human being with little or no vices, then hang with people who practice believing in greater things, talking about greater things, moving in brighter directions while leaving the past behind. Not a bunch of poor me’s in a room, all gathered together chatting about war stories all the time, smoking cigarettes, & drinking watered down sugared coffee with powdered faux creamer. Folks who gather there are typically validating negative patterns & practices & reinforcing bad behaviors by & through always running over the same ground together. And, it is made worse when the fraternizing is done with the newbies that are still likely in the throes of their addiction secretly, or very close to it anyway.

I know Twelve-Step programs mean well, but many times they can be a cesspool of seriously unhealed dysfunctional people with problems, criminals, ex-cons, drug dealers & users alike. And since sex is not against the law, these dysfunctional people without their main vice, now gravitate toward each other, to fill up the empty spaces. It’s a big shitshow, if ya ask me. A big shitshow with no qualified leader at the helm…with any kind of behavioral, spiritual or psychological credentials. The speaker that day, is essentially just a person who is another “Addict” just one drink or drug away from full blown relapse, no matter how many days or years clean they may have accumulated. As if this will ground them to their sobriety, they stay with a coin in their pocket or a colored key chain to remind them of the collection of days they have under their belt, when in truth, all it is, is plastic or medal. What counts is what’s within. The rooms don’t keep us clean… it’s the development & strengthening of our inner sanctum that does.

I get it, though. I’m not trying to be mean. I’m just not a fan. I am not denying that AA & NA have saved millions of lives throughout their days on the scene. It’s a program that works if you work it indeed. But, it’s certainly not fail-safe, & it certainly could be cleaned up, (no pun intended), to be a lot more effective, if ya ask me, like re-wording the Twelve Steps etc. Stop calling addiction a disease & defining it as a terminal thing people are stuck with for the rest of their lives. And, stop making people identify themselves as the “I am an addict” persona. It’s totally counterproductive. To the max. We need to teach people life skills, coping skills & how to tap resources from within, as opposed to moving from one crutch to the next. A street drug to a prescription drug. Teaching people to “surrender to a disease” is a funny way of teaching people self-empowerment, don’t ya think?

It’s time for people to start recognizing how addictive behaviors are formed & implemented in a person’s life, so we can see how to prevent that going forward. What’s the root cause? The root issue? What’s so empty inside? Where’s the location of the emptiness? Is it mere boredom? Or is it more gripping like… hopelessness or helplessness? Where does the fear lie? Anger, hatred, resentment, sadness, regret, guilt, madness, confusion, depression, aggression, greed, fear, scarcity, lack, limitation, self-loathing, mistrust, instability, insecurity, fear of failure, fear to succeed, lack of self-worth or self-confidence. Find the source of the grief & work it out. Because, that’s the sure culprit of any compulsion.

The more we feed a compulsion, the more the brain’s chemistry & climate changes to accommodate the mind-altering substance or activity, which means the brain begins to become malnourished, poisoned, lazy, mismanaged & ultimately wires & signals get all kinds of crossed. Which also means, it will take more work to inevitably dig out. Hence, rigorous mind-body-spirit overhaul, which will likely take years to undertake in order to see real results.

The brain is a computer of sorts that is very susceptible to toxicity, just like our bodies. Ya can’t expect to continuously poison the body with preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fat, straight sugar & sodium for a long period of time without consequences. Eventually the body begins to change its chemistry & break down. Diabetes, stroke, heart attack, obesity & depression will thus ensue. The only way to combat the toxicities & reverse the damage, is to quit cold turkey, the consumption of all toxic food & drink, & nurture & nourish the body back to health with exercise, lots of water, healthy leafy greens, fruits, veggies… prayer/meditation, & practicing new improved habits. Eventually, the blood pressure will even out, the cholesterol number will level, the diabetes can reverse, the excess weight will drop off, an air of joy will begin to replace depression, & sloth will certainly turn to ambition. But it takes, time, discipline & dedication. It doesn’t happen overnight. The longer the body had been exposed to the toxicities, the more damage has been done, hence the longer it will take to undo. Sage advice: Practice patience… she will be your most treasured pet & ally. Treat her kindly.

Persistence, dedication, commitment, willpower & self-empowerment via self-improvement will win back all personal freedom & reinstate a new lease on life that will graduate a person to a whole new level composed of immeasurable great heights. Soaring potentials realized. Regarding addiction, compulsions, obsessions, diseases, illnesses, sickness, distress, worry, regret over the past or anxiety over the future. Whatever the hell needs to be addressed & renovated… faith in our personal Divine capacity to co-create change, with the powers that be (God-Force/Love/Light)… will be our SOLE SALVATION.

Don’t be an amateur.

Peace.

SMART Recovery is the leading self-empowering addiction recovery support group. Our participants learn tools for addiction recovery based on the latest scientific research and participate in a world-wide community which includes free, self-empowering, science-based mutual help groups.

SMART Recovery (Self-Management and Recovery Training) is an international non-profit organization which provides assistance to individuals seeking abstinence from addictive behaviors. The approach used is secular and scientifically based using non-confrontational motivational, behavioral and cognitive methods. Meeting participants learn recovery methods derived from evidence-based addiction treatments. Substance/activity dependence is viewed by the organization as a dysfunctional habit (rather than a disease), while allowing that it is possible that certain people have a predisposition towards addictive behavior.

The SMART Recovery 4-Point Program helps people recover from all types of addiction and addictive behaviors, including: drug abuse, drug addiction, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, gambling addiction, cocaine addiction, prescription drug abuse, sexual addiction, and problem addiction to other substances and activities. SMART Recovery sponsors face-to-face meetings around the world, and daily online meetings. In addition, our online message board and 24/7 chat room are excellent forums to learn about SMART Recovery and obtain addiction recovery support.

[Those admitted to our San Diego rehab often tell us that they struggle with the labels of “disease” “alcoholic” and “powerlessness.” Also, wording contained within the 12 Steps makes reference God, and this can be alienating for individuals who are secular, or whose sense of faith has been weakened.

AToN Center is a program that was founded on non-12 Step treatment principles. Therefore, our Center was designed as an evidence-based best practice model for treatment of addiction free from the barriers many people experience with 12 Step only treatment programs. AToN

Center’s San Diego rehab offers Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as the clinical underpinning to all of our groups. We discuss an individual’s potential to change from the basic premise that in order to change behavior, you first need to change your thinking and learn emotional regulation skills.]
