The Twelve Step Program is outdated.

Attention: all those who wish to be liberated from the limiting beliefs & restrictions of backwards doctrines. Whether it’s religion, or Narcotics Anonymous or a program being imposed (inflicted) upon our children via secular school curriculum. Today, I will talk NA, for the sake of the countrywide “crisis” we now face as a Nation, & quite frankly, also as a worldwide race, sinking deeper. Pull up a chair. Check your ego at the door. Hear me out.

Since this is the day & age where Opioid addiction has become so prevalent & destructive that it has been declared a National Health Emergency by our current President, I believe that this conversation is very necessary. The Opioid crisis spans waaaaay back in time. I guess people are just noticing, all of a sudden? I guess it’s time for the government to capitalize on it, jump in on the greed game, with Big Pharma, rehabs, doctors, & detox facilities. They must have felt left out. (mmm-hmmm)  Regardless of the reason or timing or motive, this article is about a much more important topic. It’s about how Twelve-Step Programs are outdated, & quite frankly, in my seasoned opinion… sabotaging people to stay stuck on a merry-go-round for the remainder of their “clean & sober” lives as a “Recovering Addict.”

Even though Twelve-Step programs are the most accessible formats offered in our society, to assist those attempting to get & stay clean, they are not the most effective. Would you like me to repeat that? Twelve-Step programs seem to be in place everywhere. More or less, they are the leading protocol for all recovery seekers, however, just like old outdated programs in the mind that need adjustment, so does this program of protocol in our society that says: Twelve-Step programs are the be all end all best solution to maintaining a clean life. That is a misconception that has been ingrained into our society.

Even though the Twelve-Steps can be very effective for many people in need of guidance, redirection, or respite, as they contain a workable formatted guideline to redefine your journey… they are written with an outdated perspective. Comparable to the many wild mythologies & parables of the Bible that are racist, sexist & outdated & certainly would be much more understood & relevant if revised to meet a modern morale & standard.

The Big Blue Book has the right ideas, & contains plenty of nutrient rich intel, don’t get me wrong, but still… if we look at the big picture, certain outmoded content needs to be significantly altered in order to avoid the pitfalls of the past (the revolving door) & ultimately attain better results, going forward. “If we do what we’ve always done, we will get what we’ve always gotten.” Hmmmmm… don’t I recall that poster hanging on the wall of every rehab, detox & meeting? NA, needs to follow it’s own advice.

The Twelve Steps need to be adjusted & rewritten to meet a new improved standard of accountability that speaks more to our empowerment than to our powerlessness… at the very least. It’s 2017-18… I’m surprised no one has done that yet, frankly. Aren’t you? Well, after some Google research, it seems there are a few revisions here & there, but unfortunately, nothing was ever universally implemented.

Meetings are everywhere, especially for the weary. In any city, state, & country one finds themselves… no doubt, there’s a meeting down the street there. NA & AA is a HUGE organization with a cult-like following. I get it. But, true recovery is an inner journey. If people are not redirected properly, they will end up latching on to anything they can get their hands on, including meetings & other people going through the same thing. This usually poses a threat to our sobriety, because people are essentially not outgrowing dependence at all, but reinforcing it instead. No longer reliant on drugs or alcohol to get by, now they are reliant on people & a flawed culture of people that keep announcing aloud: they are addicts. On top of the fact that these groups are likely filled with a shit-ton of ex-cons, thieves, liars, & manipulators with criminal behavior & addictive personalities who very well likely relapse frequently. Who very well likely seek comfort through sex, or ban together to do more dirt than what got them there in the first place. Which at the very least, is counterproductive. I’ve witnessed & experienced this first hand, over & over.

Yes, Twelve-Step programs are free. meetings are free. It’s the most accessible means in any community, to connect people to recovery resources, aide, or help for sobriety. It’s like a big church of sorts, for any kind of addict to attend. They welcome everyone without judgement or discretion. Remarkable indeed, but it still doesn’t change the fact that once a person walks through that door, they are expected to do two things to remain there. One: admit they are an addict over & over again by stating aloud “I am an addict” every time they announce themselves to talk… and two: buy into the belief that addiction is a disease. Both of these concepts are counterproductive & are not accurate within the context of Universal Law.

Universal Law states that the I Am principle of deliberate creation is how we harness & own our divinity/personal power. Stating: I am an addict, over & over, each time you verbally represent yourself to others…. is sabotaging the mind to believe you are still an addict. Would you like me to repeat that?  It’s complete opposite of what living a clean life aims for. “I am a recovering or recovered addict,” would be more suitable. But, even then, the I am statement is still making a declaration that is essentially keeping that person trapped in some kind of stereotype of recovering addict persona. The goal is: to change how we identify ourselves. If twelve step people are constantly identifying themselves & others as addicts in or out of recovery, then they will just be stuck within an identity that is limiting. We are in the business of redefining who we are, so that we do not see ourselves as that addict or that struggling person in recovery. We must change the way we view ourselves & our lives & paths, with our imagination & creative visualizing faculties. We will see results faster & easier & we will make significant lasting progress rather than temporary baby steps that likely get lost & buried within the next relapse. And oh, I can almost assure you… there will be a next relapse.

From a self-proclaimed non-Twelve-Step successfully recovered person’s point of view (mine)>>>>> I sincerely believe, going forward, that non-Twelve-Step programs are so instrumental to effective change in the recovery community. For anyone that wishes to stop being a serial repeater of the same patterns & then relapsing incessantly… there’s only one choice: seek your local non-Twelve-Step program. Make sure it’s legit. There’s financial assistance out there, don’t believe the hype that says there’s not. It’s accessible to you, no matter what class or race or ethnicity you are. Make it happen. No excuses.

Regarding that “disease” notion…. I strongly disagree. A disease is typically described as something either terminal or acquired unexpectedly without our consent, not chosen. Addiction, though predisposed to some extent due to genetics… it is still not a disease. Calling it a disease is putting a label on it that makes it sound inescapable, terminal or something out of our control. Addiction is none of those things. The Twelve Steps teach that we are powerless over our addiction. But, this is a false statement. Once in the throes of the active compulsion of addiction itself, we are powerless in a sense, for we are being possessed by our insatiable desires. But, once we detox from whatever the obsession is… then we gain back our power & can thus exercise our own authority then to rise above the compulsion that once controlled us. We can consciously choose to reverse the damage by changing how we view ourselves, life & the word addiction.

Addiction is not a disease, it’s a temporary compulsion that can be transformed & channeled into a more balanced personal stability via self-love, physical activity, meditation, creative visualization, lots of emotional purging & cleansing & ultimately the rewiring of the mind. No one said it was a quick fix. But, it doesn’t have to take forever either. And the Twelve-Step program is not the most efficient road to recovery. It’s definitely flawed, on many levels. Calling addiction a disease, is keeping people stuck. Point blank.

Choose life. Choose freedom. Choose to name yourself not “addict” but, person with a message on a mission with a plan & a purpose. A person who graduated from the sting of addictive behaviors & moved to the next level because they wanted to, chose to, consciously, deliberately chose to, because they were sick of being sick & tired. If u want to be rich, hang out with rich people. If u want to be a successful human being with little or no vices, then hang with people who practice believing in greater things, talking about greater things, moving in brighter directions while leaving the past behind. Not a bunch of poor me’s in a room, all gathered together chatting about war stories all the time, smoking cigarettes, & drinking watered down sugared coffee with powdered faux creamer. Folks who gather there are typically validating negative patterns & practices & reinforcing bad behaviors by & through always running over the same ground together. And, it is made worse when the fraternizing is done with the newbies that are still likely in the throes of their addiction secretly, or very close to it anyway.

I know Twelve-Step programs mean well, but many times they can be a cesspool of seriously unhealed dysfunctional people with problems, criminals, ex-cons, drug dealers & users alike. And since sex is not against the law, these dysfunctional people without their main vice, now gravitate toward each other, to fill up the empty spaces. It’s a big shitshow, if ya ask me. A big shitshow with no qualified leader at the helm…with any kind of behavioral, spiritual or psychological credentials. The speaker that day, is essentially just a person who is another “Addict” just one drink or drug away from full blown relapse, no matter how many days or years clean they may have accumulated. As if this will ground them to their sobriety, they stay with a coin in their pocket or a colored key chain to remind them of the collection of days they have under their belt, when in truth, all it is, is plastic or medal. What counts is what’s within. The rooms don’t keep us clean… it’s the development & strengthening of our inner sanctum that does.

I get it, though. I’m not trying to be mean. I’m just not a fan. I am not denying that AA & NA have saved millions of lives throughout their days on the scene. It’s a program that works if you work it indeed. But, it’s certainly not fail-safe, & it certainly could be cleaned up, (no pun intended), to be a lot more effective, if ya ask me, like re-wording the Twelve Steps etc. Stop calling addiction a disease & defining it as a terminal thing people are stuck with for the rest of their lives. And, stop making people identify themselves as the “I am an addict” persona. It’s totally counterproductive. To the max. We need to teach people life skills, coping skills & how to tap resources from within, as opposed to moving from one crutch to the next. A street drug to a prescription drug. Teaching people to “surrender to a disease” is a funny way of teaching people self-empowerment, don’t ya think?

It’s time for people to start recognizing how addictive behaviors are formed & implemented in a person’s life, so we can see how to prevent that going forward. What’s the root cause? The root issue? What’s so empty inside? Where’s the location of the emptiness? Is it mere boredom? Or is it more gripping like… hopelessness or helplessness? Where does the fear lie? Anger, hatred, resentment, sadness, regret, guilt, madness, confusion, depression, aggression, greed, fear, scarcity, lack, limitation, self-loathing, mistrust, instability, insecurity, fear of failure, fear to succeed, lack of self-worth or self-confidence. Find the source of the grief & work it out. Because, that’s the sure culprit of any compulsion.

The more we feed a compulsion, the more the brain’s chemistry & climate changes to accommodate the mind-altering substance or activity, which means the brain begins to become malnourished, poisoned, lazy, mismanaged & ultimately wires & signals get all kinds of crossed. Which also means, it will take more work to inevitably dig out. Hence, rigorous mind-body-spirit overhaul, which will likely take years to undertake in order to see real results.

The brain is a computer of sorts that is very susceptible to toxicity, just like our bodies. Ya can’t expect to continuously poison the body with preservatives, high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oils, trans fat, straight sugar & sodium for a long period of time without consequences. Eventually the body begins to change its chemistry & break down. Diabetes, stroke, heart attack, obesity & depression will thus ensue. The only way to combat the toxicities & reverse the damage, is to quit cold turkey, the consumption of all toxic food & drink, & nurture & nourish the body back to health with exercise, lots of water, healthy leafy greens, fruits, veggies… prayer/meditation, & practicing new improved habits. Eventually, the blood pressure will even out, the cholesterol number will level, the diabetes can reverse, the excess weight will drop off, an air of joy will begin to replace depression, & sloth will certainly turn to ambition. But it takes, time, discipline & dedication. It doesn’t happen overnight. The longer the body had been exposed to the toxicities, the more damage has been done, hence the longer it will take to undo. Sage advice: Practice patience… she will be your most treasured pet & ally. Treat her kindly.

Persistence, dedication, commitment, willpower & self-empowerment via self-improvement will win back all personal freedom & reinstate a new lease on life that will graduate a person to a whole new level composed of immeasurable great heights. Soaring potentials realized. Regarding addiction, compulsions, obsessions, diseases, illnesses, sickness, distress, worry, regret over the past or anxiety over the future. Whatever the hell needs to be addressed & renovated… faith in our personal Divine capacity to co-create change, with the powers that be (God-Force/Love/Light)… will be our SOLE SALVATION.

Don’t be an amateur.

Peace.

Choose to Travel Light

il_340x270.927314091_fancIn order for our highest wishes to be fulfilled, we must first begin to accept things as they are, fully, completely…as they are. Wonderful creative genius minds developed via this deed. It is a deed.

it is a deed done for ourselves. Following this deed, we will then have surrendered to the moment & the acceptance of its fruits & feelings. We may indeed prefer something a bit more luxurious or meaningful, but, that is all to come if we accept the now. Accepting the now as beautifully flawed as it may be…is a prerequisite to any & all fortunate circumstances that lie ahead.

Furthermore, in doing so, we will then also have peace of mind. Turbulent anxiety for things to change will dissolve, and  words & thoughts made of  faith in goodness granted will reign supreme.

There is no such thing as suffering or pain. We may be human, as they say…but we are spiritual beings first and foremost. We are not destined to feel distress, disillusionment or darkness…this is only an idea man has created through linear time.

It is now…time…to walk the walk  with a stride of freedom, severing any past preconceived notions that may have essentially kept us cold, alone, or stranded in a place of sorrow or pain. Nothing is more untrue as dread & disdain, in the light of God.

So, let us come together now, & rejoice in the true nature of being alive on Earth. Our true nature & most beneficial pursuit & purpose we have, is to become the free beings we were meant to be. I’m ok with that. It’s what we all want anyway, essentially.

True freedom doesn’t interrupt our home life, or professional life, or friendships or romances or travel plans. It doesn’t change our family dynamic or the toppings we like on our pizza. But what it does change is the way we perceive all of these things. The way we react, respond, and deal with any & all changes that occur within our circle. We may now have the where with all to choose to behave in a manner that is positive, rather than negative no matter what the issue may appear to be. What’s the worst that can happen? Does it really matter that much? That we need to overreact, fret, worry & fear the outcome or circumstance or person? No Sir, no Ma’am. Period.

My motto today is: “React responsibly, respond accordingly.”

Nothing is too monstrous to fear. We always have a choice. That choice includes an ability to rise above the emotional jerking around of it, & make an educated deliberate decision to not allow it to dictate our inner stability, taint our grace, haunt our healing, taunt our trust, tear down our confidence, poison our prosperity or falsify our faith.

Let us keep in mind, folks…tomorrow is another day. We actually can wake up to a new day at any moment. But…we all know…”What a difference a day makes!”

At any rate, let us choose to know today, in the face of any annoyance, difficulty, challenge, painful experience, opposition or hardship….that we have the freedom to perceive it with a lighthearted awareness. This will instantly break down its predatorial power over us, and we will change then thereof the course of its frolick upon our landscape…its destiny to destroy us or the moment or break us down. Love does indeed conquer all. If to love our enemy means to change the way we react to adverse people or circumstances….then by all means…let us travel the high road…shall we?!

Change the Game & ReTrain the Brain: The Art of UnEntertaining Negative Thoughts

e15e6dd2a91c2b1825233f641efe6720
This is a poetic short guide to the Art and Skill of ignoring negative thought patterns that seem to multiply inside the mind without our permission by the thousands, daily. Two literary resources whose material I’m quite fond of, specifically clarify this simple concept in a sweet little practical way. “Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff” by the late Richard Carlson PHD, has a whole chapter dedicated to it. And then, every basic book, audio, and video that Eckhart Tolle ever produced, has this concept outlined in quite considerable theoretic detail. Not to mention, Esther Hicks channels Abraham with this concept at the helm.
It’s wonderful and refreshing, those quiet momentous occasions when I have stumbled upon  pearls of wisdom that inspired me to revisit my personal practices. I was reminded recently of how very important of a learned and practiced skill it is, to UnEntertain negative thoughts. The concept is very relevant to the topic of the affirmative action of positive thinking. Within the realm of changing our thoughts to alter our life experience to ultimately rewrite our destiny, we could certainly use all the help we can get.
This concept personified,  is presumably, the very archer of our dear lives that is walking stoic with a few bent arrows, upon the battlefield of the Babylonian mania that exists inside of our minds. The battlefield upon which our dear little-ingrained granules of negative DNA molecules like little micro demons, so irreverently scatter about incessantly like a broken damn record in some weird haunted film. Almost like a mess of sharp tacks tossed across your walkway. Negative thought patterns seem to stick to our mental walls, like pornographic graffiti that takes a kingsize scrub brush and superior industrial cleaning agent to ever even attempt to get off. Erase, discard, eradicate, defer, debunk, derail, desensitize, deglamorize, dehypnotize, de-energize, undo, unglue.
Boo! Scare it out. Scream and shout. Do not feed complaints or doubt. Never let too much anger or vengeance or fear amount. Be the eager little soldier or scout. UnEntertain its darn downright dirty little secret pout. Let it out, by UnEntertaining its sneaky ruthless route. It’s such an attention seeker. A stalker, a tweeker. A ham for the limelight. A sore impetuous sight. A rambling ruse attempting to distract our muse. A fancy false filament of verbiage we must not use. It only wants us for the sole purpose of abuse. It is our job, to appropriately choose. To ignore their negative nasty smelly worn-out shoes.
Let’s pretend that they don’t even count. Let them pass to the flipside where they have no clout. They’ll disappear, and disintegrate into billions of particles to never again be found out. This, my friend, is the Art of UnEntertaining the poisonous nothings that roam aimlessly about. Nagging & nitpicking our mental hallways, they seem to be there somewhere… just always. Waiting to disrupt, tangle or meddle in business not their own. They hide and lie and waddle and moan. They will try to catch a lift, latch on like a leech or a tick. They’ll begin to suck the blood out of anything they pick. But if we choose to UnEntertain their drama, lure or tricks, we will certainly master the art of dodging bullets, stones, rocks, boulders and sticks. AKA: negative thoughts. Blah zee blah blah blah. Run along now, gruff grumbling antics, take your false hooded sinister semantics.
No more tea and krimpets for you, we no longer Entertain any sorry ass uninvited thought untrue. We only have caviar and an open bar prepared for our guests, the ones whose motives are only to bless. Keep it movin’, keep it steppin’, keep it real. I am wise enough to choose to UnEntertain your useless spiel. Negative thought? What negative thought? Nelly? Who the helly is Negative Nelly?
The Cuban cigar, the Ribeye steak, you will not get the privilege to partake. The feathered throw pillow or the 20-year scotch. Not on my couch, not on my watch. We don’t Entertain frauds, or fools who have no good intentions. We only pay our mind to right thoughts that give us healthy habits, and honorable interventions. Take a hike Meddlesome Mike. Scram, ya big fat ham, Hit the road Juvenile Jack. Store is closed. Lights turned off. Now flock to another flame, you rammy little moth. We learned to ReTrain the Brain, not even a wild horse can take our eagle eye off the game. We know how to judiciously UnEntertain!
Whew! That was a close call & almost a really low blow… Get off my property, ya mangy scavenger crow. Shoo ya big moose. For your service we have no use. Go away, and take your car salesman undermining tactics. Go back to your 1980s weird science lab of poisonous pretend prophylactics. We take vitamins and drink the clean refreshment of right positive mental flow. Take your negative words and whispers and please just go!!!!! We live in the New Age, where we have grown to fastidious heights. One thing that we’ve learned how to do, is to unfly dangerous kites.
Black magic, be gone! Storm your way out into the perilous winds of distress. There’s nothing for you to feed off of here, nothing to make a mess. Poised and protected, the gladiator within rocks a heroic hoist. Standing tall she knew exactly how to make her choice. Amidst the groveling viral voices within, batting her lashes with that rainmaker grin…. her heart embraces only the ribbons of wealth… weaving their way… to perfect mind-body health. Owning authority and accountability for her personal space and domain, negative thoughts, not even a minute longer do we foolishly Entertain!

Ha!

Crazy Diamond!

There is nothing deeper than the ability to feel. Feeling requires a conscious choice to have an affectionate connection to life & living. All the noise, static, confusion, distraction, or negativity that exists though, on the other hand, does not have to be considered if one does not wish to consider it. Our choice is our choice. Choice is a cool feature we own as humans. We get to choose everyday in every way, what we are thinking, giving attention to, or allowing ourselves to consider. If I allow myself to dwell too long on a thing that has outlived its usefulness with regard to resolution & closure, I will be then unconsciously choosing to hold on to the past. Holding on to anything too long, that has out lived its purpose, can be dangerous to our health & wellness. A person, a relationship, a memory, an idea, a goal, a dream, a fantasy, an expectation, a plan, a job, a personal program, a habit, a pattern, a material item, a desire, a disappointment, a loss, a death, an unexpected change or transition, an experience, an event, a trauma. All those things serve us for a time. It is our job to know when that time expires. For in being in tune with “the process” we then cultivate a keen ability for practicing the art of letting go at right perfect times. Not too soon, not too late. We intuitively know, when we have internalized it enough to move on… or… we know that we may have to unearth it more, to deal with it further, experience the emotions tied to it further, in order that we may be able to fully let it go. There is a fine line, between letting it go or just  burying it. It has  to be fully felt. It has to be heard. Let it make you scream & yell, wine & cry, bitch, complain or rant! Let it come out, all the way, and face it, head on, head strong, with sword & shield in hand. For only in doing so, do we allow it to live itself out of us until it’s gone.

It will have no more power. Why? Because we weren’t scared of facing it. We felt it, dealt with it, contended with all its unruly emotions, and instead of resisting it, we became a tree rooted firmly in the ground through its storm. We didn’t choose to bury it so it could then continue to have some kind of underlying secret power over us for as long as we let it chip away. Jabbing us with slurs and whispers of doubts & insecurities from its underground throne inside of us, where we nurse its existence with guilt, regret, fear or attachment. There is no way to possibly move forward in this life with a sense of security, if we are choosing to hold on to a thing that has outlived its purpose.

FYI, The “stuck past” doesn’t discriminate:) Today, let’s all choose to allow anything moving through our lives, to indeed move through. Fully, completely, until it’s all through, all out, and we ultimately proceed to escort its disruptive ass, out the damn door. For good. Forever. No matter how big or small its meddlesome butt may be….

Cause life is too short, to live in some form of denial, on any level. Rock it out! Whatever it is. And then keep going.

I am learning this skill…because at this stage of the game, I have no choice but to Shine on! Like a Crazy Diamond! Thanx, Gav, for that awesome chime in…..;) One of God’s greatest gifts to man is choice! But it is also, Friends….:) Old & new! Thank you for your presence in my life….

So grateful,

Zapp

Today’s Treat! Get fed.

Heaven appears in the glimpses of the heart where true love & the wellspring of creativity join forces to furnish a pulse.

Let us continue to grow, to open, to realize, recognize, & internalize our dreams of things eternal.

Feelings stream eternal. Ethereal waves of consciousness stream eternal. Laughter, love, light & vibration are all eternal. Energy, music, sound, the weather’s changing moods… are all eternal. Nature, harmony, union & connection are all eternal. Giving, receiving, sending, blending, being, are all eternal.

Change, is eternal most of all. The only true constant in our mutable vast universe.

Let us be Artists of our fate! Travellers of true destiny! Wizards, warriors, lovers, livers….luminous light-bearing magicians…who: empower each other  to be free & enlightened. What a concept!

From day one! We are faced with: dirty, gritty, twisted, taunting unkempt life, with all its pending possible challenges, mistakes, missteps & deformities. Cracking crumbling sidewalks, bipolar antics, sub-par ethics, imperfection, sickness, sadness, madness. Misunderstood schools of thought, tangly woven webs, war, debate, drama, disappointment, debt & death. Pushing, pulling, waiting, wishing, wanting, failing, fearing, facing. Climbing, digging, building, trying, striving, crying, craving, sighing.

Well…they are all actually such beautiful pieces to the perfect cosmic puzzle. If you can believe that.

The moral of the story is:

It’s not what happens

It’s how you handle it!

Rock on y’all!!

Chapter eleven: The Contract of Commitment & Affirmation

Summary:
Here we have the last chapter. It is the shortest chapter of all. This chapter begins with the analogy of a “haunted house.”
It discusses how with any significant shift in consciousness, there will always be an interval of adjustment. It uses the “haunted house” metaphor to connote how “ghosts” of past patterns and habits may attempt to keep our proverbial “house haunted.” However, it bolsters confidence by assuring their temporal stature. The moving forward process will unquestionably prevail in due time, with perseverance and commitment. This leads us to the crux of this chapter: “The Contract of Commitment.”
The author designed a special page for the reader to read, sign and date. Chapter Nine: The Metamorphosis of Moving Forward…..Get wings!

butterfly elephantSummary:
I believe this chapter is masterfully composed, simply because it gives articulate clarity to concepts commonly abstract. It is a body of important information about the moving forward process, and the metamorphosis that takes place within it. This chapter judiciously breaks down the process of moving forward into a step by step precise recipe for success. It uses the ingenious analogy of a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. It deciphers how old thought patterns inherently crave to veritably transform into new winged ones that fly us forward into the ides of advancement. It explicitly details how to allow and then enforce the moving forward process. It demonstrates how to conclusively become unhitched from anything currently holding us back from working towards or achieving our fullest potentials. It teaches us how to actively work to remove obstructions daily with ease and reconciliation.
This chapter leaves us with some great new shiny tools ready for use!

I am blessed & grateful,

Get wings!
